Meet Our London Town Speaker
Aki Otomo, DVM, DACVS (SA)
Dr. Otomo was born in Sendai, Japan and grew up in Vancouver, Canada where she
completed her undergraduate degree. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
Degree at St. George’s University with completion of clinical year rotations at Oregon
State University. Following graduation from veterinary school, she completed a rotating
companion animal internship at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of
Guelph followed by a surgery internship in private practice in Los Angeles. She then
completed a 3 year small animal surgery residency at Louisiana State University.
Immediately after residency, Dr. Otomo continued with additional subspecialized training
in surgical oncology via a surgical oncology fellowship at The Flint Animal Cancer
Center at Colorado State University.
Dr. Otomo has been board certified in small animal surgery with the American College
of Veterinary Surgeons since 2024. Her specific interests from a surgical oncology
stand-point consists of performing complex hepatectomy surgeries for primary liver lobe
tumors as well as challenging soft tissue reconstruction cases and use of pre and intra-
operative sentinel lymph node mapping techniques. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor
activities, trail riding her Arabian horse, competing in dog sports with her Belgian
Malinois, travelling the world and taking part in horse-back riding treks in other
countries, eating everything anywhere and spending time with her 3 cats (2 British
Shorthairs and a Munchkin).
